Sub-type Skills
The Basics
Some of the skills are called Sub-type skills. They are indicated by the skull mark on the action icon, and have slightly different properties than other skills.
First, every Sub skill is based on a different, standard skill. For example, “Sub M Grind” is relatively easy to come by, and gives you abilities equal to those of “Mach Grind,” the top grinding skill. Not only that, it costs fewer skill points than the skill it’s based on, and lets you save your skill points to use elsewhere.
There are, however, drawbacks to Sub skills that make them tricky to use. They have negative effects such as increasing the damage you take, or consuming Rings each time they are used. Depending on how you combine skills, you can sometimes nullify these negative effects, so if you have some extra points, experiment with different combinations.
